Owner/Lead Teacher

I am a veteran Montessori teacher with eighteen years of teaching experience. My Montessori journey began twenty-six years ago when I received my AMI zero to three Assistant to Infancy diploma. At that time, I also completed a Master’s degree in Education. I went on to teach at the zero to three level for ten years in Chicago at Near North Montessori School where I not only served children and families but also trained and supervised new teachers. During this time, I honed my skills as a Montessori educator and discovered my natural ability to work with children and parents. The zero to six age group is a group I intuitively understand and effortlessly connect with. I find their curiosity and wonder a joy to be around and am constantly in awe of their natural and spiritual intelligence. In 2003 and 2004 completed a Master’s degree in Child Development and a Master's degree in Social Work, respectively, and continued my work with children and families as a helping professional.

I returned to the world of Montessori in 2016 and immediately saw a need for a quality zero to three year old program. In 2017, YMS opened its doors with a Toddler Community and in 2019 we started our first primary program for 3 to 6 year olds. YMS currently offers a morning primary program.

When not at YMS, I am usually with my family, getting outside, or exploring new hobbies. I am currently learning how to create mosaics! I have three high school aged children (who keep me on my toes!) and am married to my husband, who is also an educator. We love hanging out together with our cat Juno and our dog Ginger, going hiking when we can, and playing dominoes.

Nancy White
Lead Teacher

I come to YMS with over 20 years of Montessori teaching experience. I’ve taught mostly at the Primary level with a little bit of time in a toddler classroom. I love guiding children and watching as they discover new ideas and skills. Being a part of guiding the development of their foundation for life is an incredible honor, one which I take seriously. That being said, my favorite things to do with children is to be a little silly, laugh, and make lessons fun.

I have a Bachelors Degree in Human Services from Springfield College. This speaks to my love of contributing to the growth of others. Because of my desire to be of service to others, I have furthered my education and am a certified Holistic Life Coach, implementing IFS  principles as the center of my practice.

I live in Asheville with my fiancé and our two dogs Charlotte and George. Charlotte is 12 yrs. old, and George is 11 mos. old. I have two grandchildren who call me Nana and it is by far my favorite title yet! I love to mountain bike and my partner and I hike often with the pups. We also enjoy the theatre, live music, all the food, and all the rich culture here in Asheville.
